3D modeling: Build a castle


To build a castle with 3ds max, I have know how to use the program's interface and tools which are useful and easy to control in box modeling.

The first thing I know to use in the Modify Tab, It can help me to modifying my block into different angles and shapes.

For building the castle, the first step is build a "Box" and a "Cylinder".

After that con 4 pieces each, and we can also use the Modify Tab to modify the shapes.

For the tower of the castle, I use "Extrude" from the "Face" catalog, It can help me to pull faces upside down. And use "Connect" from "Vertex" catalog  to help me connect each blocks.

In Modify List, there are 5 main options for modifying polygon, they are Vertex (points), Edges (lines), Face (surface), polygon and element.

For My castle, I had built a basic classic castle with four faces and four towers.

To connect all models, I had learn to use a "Link" button from top left, it can help me to link modeling in mothers block and small blocks.

To add colors to the castle, I learnt how to use the Material Editor, it can help me to color up my models. First, i had search some rock background image from internet and add them to the materials library, after that I can start edit some set up for the image and pull it to the face of castle. And the background image I choose will show.

After we change the skin, we can see there are see image are broke in the top of the models.

To solve this problem, I had learn to use the "UVM map" tools to help. In this tool, we can able to select projections and adjust scales and tiling materials we use.

And the basic castle is finished.

3D modeling: helicopter animation


Beside using 3ds max for modeling, we can also use it to create simple 3d animations.

To make a heli animation, we need to build one by modeling ourselves.

To let the animation start recording, we can use the "Auto key" from down right, when we push it, the screen will be turn red, that mean the record is start.

The line below the main screen is the time bar, it can help to chose time and play the animation.

In this animation, I will decide each move in each 5 scales. For first, I will pull the bar to 5 scale (scale 10 and 15 will do the same thing) and rotate two blade in 45 degree. And in scale 20, the heli will take off. Scale 30, the heli will start flying with circle. And scale 50, it will start landing. And scale 60, it land.

To play the animation, user can pull the time bar, and the system will decide a path automatically so that the process can be smoothly.

To help my make the blade rotate more easily, I had select the "Loop" button from edit in the "Mini curve editor". it make the blade spin for the duration of the time bar.

To make the animation more longer, we can copy scale from the time bar and paste it at the end of the animation. It easy make the anime.
